Roam with Kids is a family-friendly app for exploring Auckland with kids. From local playgrounds, and pram-friendly walks to events and kid-friendly cafes - Roam with Kids is perfect for those with young kids.
I first discovered Roam With Kids, when the creator, Renata, invited me to the app's launch back in April of 2024. Unfortunately this was on a public holiday, and we already had plans with our kids, so I wasn't able to attend.
I did however, download the app, and was pleasantly surprised with what I saw.
Roam with Kids is exactly as I described it above - it's an app designed to help parents explore Auckland through a family-friendly lens.
It starts with a map of Auckland, which you can zoom into the suburbs, and will show you playgrounds, cafe's that are kid-friendly, and pram-friendly walks.
Within each location (e.g. Potters Park Playground) is a description, photo and any reviews from other members. You can also add your own reviews of locations as well - to help out other users.
There's also a section for upcoming family-friendly events AND a section containing offers and discounts.
Renata, the brains behind Roam With Kids, is a Mum of two kids who lives in Auckland with her partner. They're an adventurous bunch and love getting out and exploring local attractions.
Initially she started sharing the cool spots she found on social media, as Mums from all over Auckland were keen to know what she recommended.
Renata then tried plugging this data into Google Maps and sharing it with her followers, however it wasn't as user-friendly as she had hoped. So in December of 2023, she decided that perhaps an app was the way to go.
And from what I've seen - it's pretty awesome.
When I asked Renata how long it took to develop the app, she said "In February 2024, I gave him [the app developer] the dealine to get it launched before I gave birth, which he pulled off! The iPhone version launched a week before I gave birth".
Renata gave birth to not only a child this year, but to an incredible app that will help so many parents!
The app is free to download, however to continue accessing the data, it will cost $2.99 per month - a small price to pay to access all of that wonderful family-friendly information!
Renata also has plans to expand outside of Auckland, and make further updates to the current app; however at this stage she's looking after her newborn baby; so be sure to follow her on social media for updates!
